On February 18, 2026, what I thought was just another migraine turned out to be a rare autoimmune neurological disease that -- after years of overworking, overachieving, and overthinking -- left me suddenly bed-bound and unable to work, walk, or function independently.
One of the biggest contributing factors, according to my doctors: stress.
“You need to slow down,” my doctor told me, “or you’re never going to get out of bed.”
I was never going to slow down, until I didn't have a choice.
In the stillness, I started drawing again for the first time in over a decade -- and it changed my life. Art became a way to quiet my mind, reconnect with myself, and create meaning inside a life that suddenly looked very different.
